About Tai Chi Chuan & Qigong
Tai chi chuan is an ancient system of movements traditionally practiced for health and longevity. There are several 'forms' and one of the most widely practiced in the West is the CMC 37 posture form. It takes only 8 - 10 minutes to practice a 'round of tai chi', and ~32 weekly classes to learn all the specific moves. Kate offers private tai chi form classes that can be adapted to suit your pace of learning.
Roots & Branches 5 Element Qigong offers a simpler introduction to tai chi principle (than learning the form) with a focus on relaxation and releasing tension by aligning ourselves with gravity, and paying attention to how we stand and move. There are 3 basic movements - Embracing the Tao, Yin Yang Breath and Constant Bear with Looking Owl. These are easy to learn, whatever your physical ability, and can even be adapted for sitting. Each season we can tap into the energy corresponding 'element' around us and in us using postures and movements from the tai chi form that correspond to each of the five elements - summer/fire, late summer/earth, fall/metal, winter/water, spring/wood.
